Support South Dakota!

On October 4th, a catastrophic blizzard hit the western plains with a huge brunt of the storm gravely affecting South Dakota ranchers. Livelihoods were greatly affected by the loss of thousands of livestock animals throughout the state and surrounding area that perished due to the untimely event. Galesburg FFA is selling shirts to raise funds to donate to relief efforts for ranchers and their families.
Prices are $1 higher than posted on the order form due to shipping costs.  If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, email Ms. Smith at csmith@galesburg205.org with the type of shirt you would like and your size.  You can send money to the high school to the attention of Galesburg FFA at 1135 W Fremont, Galesburg IL 61401.
This effort is going viral!  You don't to miss out!  Order forms are even circulating around the country in Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, even Penn State!  Wow:)  Orders will be taken until November 5th.  Thank you in advance for your support!

We had another great turn out for todays informational meeting!  I'm so thrilled with the turn out we've seen this year!  Highlight from todays meeting:

Students, make sure to get your $15 turned in to Ms. Smith by October 10th for our state and national dues to FFA.

We will be having our next social on October 18th out at Lake Bracken.  We will have a bonfire.  This is a Halloween party so costumes are encouraged!  Please bring something to share if you are able.  Directions will be coming closer to time.

The chapter had a busy month in Spetember.  Students participated in the Homecoming parade, State Horse Judging Contest, Greenhand Conference in Macomb, State and Section officer chapter visits, and the Section 4 Forestry contest hosted by our chapter.  Bethany Petentler placed 9th individually at the contest!  Great job to Bethany!  Keep up the good work:)

The following are reminders for upcoming events:

State Horse Judging will take place Sept 14th.  We will leave the high school at 7:00 am and travel to Blackhawk College.  We will be back before lunch so this should not interefere with homecoming dance plans!  Practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays until the contest.

Forestry Judging will take place Sept 25th at Lake Storey.  Interested students should see Ms. Smith for study materials.  The contest includes tree ID, tool ID, a compass course, and written test.  We will have short practices on Tue and thur until the contest for those interested.

Foundation Drive will begin shortly after the Greenhand Conference.  The Foundation Drive is money collection drive by all chapters in the state to raise operating funds for the state office.  Students and parents are strongly encouraged to participate.  Top participants will have first priority for National Convention so start early!  A list of conacts from the past and letters will be available from Ms. Smith to help your efforts.

Back to School cookout

It's time for our first FFA get together of the year!  The chapter will be hosting a cookout social for all to enjoy as our first meeting and social.  This is a chance to meet fellow members and learn more about the organization.  Information is as follows:

Time: 5:30 PM

Place: Lake Storey- The Shelter that is located behind the horse arena on the south side o the lake (directly across from CSC)  This shelter is first come first serve so if we are not there, we will be at a shelter on the north side of the lake behind the practice soccer fields.

The chapter will provide hot dogs, buns, chips, drinks, and paper service items.  If you would like to bring a dessert or side to share, please feel free!  Do not feel like obligated to do so, just if you are able or wish to share.

Along with the meal, we will have an introduction to officers, a meeting to discuss upcoming events and practices, and a fun game!  Hope to see you there.

Contact Ms. Smith at 815-441-4414 with any questions you may have.
